2. Customised Tutoring Plan: Using the assessment, we develop a personalised program that focuses on key areas to enhance your child’s academic performance.
3. Regular Assessments: Frequent assessments and mock exams help monitor progress and reinforce understanding. We also provide practice exams that mimic the real testing environment, helping students feel confident and prepared. 

Key Stage 2 includes school years 3 to 6, and at Iftin, we focus on English and Maths. We have designed our curriculum on building core skills in reading, writing, and mathematics in line with the national expectations.

English

The KS2 English curriculum, as outlined by the Department for Education, sets specific learning goals to ensure students develop strong language and literacy skills. The curriculum aims to enhance pupils' command of spoken and written English and foster a love for reading.

By the end of KS2, students should be able to write clearly and accurately, engage in discussions, read fluently, and effectively use vocabulary, grammar, and language conventions.

The curriculum is divided into three key areas: 

• reading

• spoken language 

The KS2 SATs assess students' knowledge in reading, writing, grammar, and spelling. These tests are crucial for evaluating how well students have met the curriculum's objectives, making it essential to prepare them thoroughly.

Mathematics

Using a combination of accurately set resources, we aim to cover the following sections with students.

For Year 9 students preparing for GCSEs, we prioritise strengthening their foundational knowledge as it is essential that students build the skills and ability needed to approach their GCSEs with confidence.

Our GCSE programs place a strong emphasis on exam-specific preparation to ensure students are fully equipped for success. We focus on familiarising students with the exam format, teaching effective exam strategies, and providing plenty of practice with past papers and mock exams.

Chemistry

Part 1 - Atomic structure and periodic table: the historical development of atomic theory, atomic number, mass number and subatomic particles, isotopes and relative atomic mass, elements/compounds/mixtures, the periodic table, electronic configuration, groups 1, 7 and 0, separating mixtures, states of matter and state symbols, and the three types of bonding (ionic, covalent, metallic) together with how structure determines properties.

Part 2 - Quantitative chemistry: balancing equations and conservation of mass, relative formula mass, percentage composition, empirical and molecular formulae, moles, the Avogadro constant and counting particles, reacting-mass calculations, core numeracy skills for chemistry (units, conversions, significant figures), limiting reactants, balancing equations using moles, and concentration calculations — ending with a mixed quantitative assessment.

Part 3 - Chemical changes: acids, bases and alkalis, neutralisation reactions, metals reacting with acids and the reactivity series, oxidation, reduction and redox, ionic equations and spectator ions, extracting metals, and electrolysis.

Part 4 - Energy changes: exothermic and endothermic reactions, reaction profiles and activation energy, bond energies, rates of reaction and collision theory, and dynamic equilibrium and Le Chatelier's principle.

Part 5 - Organic chemistry, analysis, atmosphere & resources: organic chemistry, chemical analysis techniques, the chemistry of the atmosphere, and using Earth's resources.

Part 6 - Triple Science only: extra depth for students taking separate Chemistry - further periodic table and materials content, separate quantitative chemistry, electrochemical cells, separate organic chemistry, separate chemical analysis, and industrial chemistry.

Physics

English

When tutoring GCSE English, we focus on equipping students with the skills necessary to excel in their exams and beyond. The course covers a range of essential topics, including:

• Critical Reading and Comprehension: Students learn to analyse and interpret themes, ideas, and information from a variety of texts. They practice identifying bias, evaluating the effectiveness of language, and making critical comparisons between texts.
• Writing: Emphasis is placed on producing clear, coherent, and imaginative writing. Students are taught to adapt their writing style for different purposes and audiences, use a rich vocabulary, and employ effective organisational techniques.
• Spoken Language: Students develop their presentation skills and the ability to use spoken Standard English effectively. They learn to listen and respond thoughtfully in formal settings, preparing them for speeches and presentations.
